Goodnight, Pittsburgh

Monday, Labor Day, was the last of our weekend in Pittsburgh.  It included more Angstrom time and

more good food.  This time it was hamburgs from grass-fed beef, onions, mushrooms, squash, roasted peppers (not pictured),

and even home-made hamburg rolls.  This is Jesse's, and

somehow he managed to get it in.

We finished with a sunset from Schenley Park.

Breakfast with Angstrom

On Sunday, Angstrom (with a little help from Jesse) prepared French toast.

Meanwhile, Jesse did bananas Foster to go on top of the toast.

Here's the rum

and the flames

and the finished product.

The Strip in the Morning; Backyard in the Afternoon

Saturday morning we went to the Strip District for the farmers' market and some additional shopping,

including fish for dinner.

The final selection was a pair of dorade, here getting a final trimming of fins.

Back home, Angstrom played in his sandbox,

relaxed,

and watered plants.

Jesse cooked a couple yellow peppers

and the fish, here just on the grill,

and here cooked,

and finally being deboned by Jesse.

He also cooked potatoes, garlic, wild mushrooms, rhubarb, and a sauce which went over ice cream and the grilled rhubarb.  Another wonderful meal chez Jesse!

Friday Feast

First, Angstrom had an afternoon snack.

Then everyone sat around the sandbox,

except for poor CL, who was banished to the hammock.

Jesse cooked a fantastic meal, which included grass-fed steak, potatoes, mangos, garlic, asparagus, summer squash, mushrooms, and bananas.

Carousel & Diplodocus

We headed out this morning with the goal of giving Angstrom a ride on the carousel in Schenley Plaza.

After a complete tour, he determined that he liked none of the horses or other creatures but did like

the teacup, which spins.  However after less than one rotation of the carousel, he decided that the cup, too, was unacceptable and spent the rest of the ride like this.

Since we had already paid for an hour's parking, we checked out some of the area's other sights, like this fountain

and the life-sized Diplodocus Carnegii replica next to the Carnegie Library.
