Blueberries & Butterflies

This morning we drove out to Granville to pick up some blueberries (link to Sussmann's).
Forty pounds of them, to be precise.

While CL was in the barn, I watched the butterflies in their garden.

There was also an insect that I'd never seen before. After some searching, I discovered that it's a Hummingbird Moth.

Home in the Rain

It rained for almost the entire 9.5 hours it took us to drive home yesterday. It was even wetter than it looks in this picture. By the way, why is there a town in Pennsylvania called Jersey Shore? It has to be 250 miles from the Jersey shore.

A1 - Birthday Party

Angstrom's first birthday party was Sunday. There are a few pictures below; click here for the full set on Flickr.

Angstrom's Actual Birthday

Today was Angstrom's first birthday. There'll be a party on Sunday. But the family gave him a few gifts today. First was this cart of blocks, with a handle, sort of like a walker for little kids. He started walking behind it immediately.

Jesse liked this shirt, but it won't fit him.

Angstrom liked his soccer ball; I wasn't able to get any pictures of him kicking it.

He wasn't sure whether his was a phone or a xylophone.

We finished the evening off with another wonderful dinner.

Jesse and Angstrom

We're in Pittsburgh for Angstrom's first birthday (more on that later). Meanwhile, Jesse was doing a demo for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank this afternoon, not far from his house, so we and Angstrom dropped by to watch for a few minutes. The temperature here is 93 degrees, and Jesse's standing in the sun over a hot cast iron skillet.

Maggie's Weekend - Sunday Morning

Maggie went to church with us;
she was very attentive during the children's message,
but she wasn't comfortable enough to join the other kids on the chancel steps.
Afterward she enjoyed the refreshments available at coffee hour.

Maggie's Weekend - Saturday Afternoon/Evening

(Plus one I forgot from the morning)

We went to the Block Party at Trinity;
to get there, Maggie got her first ride in Mr. Toad.
She was too small for the games, but she looked at the sights
and enjoyed the food.

Back home, she and her grandmother read a bedtime story.

Maggie's Weekend - Saturday Morning

After Maggie helped Clara Lee prepare a breakfast of blueberry waffles,

we went back to Forest Park, this time to the zoo.

We last visited it with Maggie 10 months ago. She's grown a lot over that time.

After the zoo, we visited the playground briefly,
and then rode on the train.
